Am Ha’aretz
Am Ha’aretz was created to bring environmental awareness to the Jewish and broader communities on campus, through a series of events and initiatives. The first project to be implemented was the establishment of a sustainable organic garden on the Maryland Hillel campus. The initiative has already garnered significant publicity and has drawn attention to environmental issues.

Am Haaretz is proud to be the only Jewish Green Initiative at the University of Maryland. It is our goal to integrate Jewish ethics and ideology into a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle. We host activities, projects, and different campaigns to make the campus, and the world, a greener and greater place. We have established an organic garden at the UMD Hillel. Our fresh produce is donated directly to the Family Crisis center, a home for women and children victims of domestic violence. We are in the process of establishing a garden for the center to produce readily available healthy food. Am Ha’Aretz is working to create a campus wide composting program to ensure that all students and College Park residents have the ability to lessen their waste. We are pleased to announce the start of our twice-monthly discussion group where we focus on studying the Environment from a Jewish perspective.

We are always looking for new members and ideas to help our initiative grow. If you are interested, please email us!
