Challah 4 Hunger is a community service student group based out of UMD Hillel. Each week, we bake challah and sell it on campus in order to raise money to donate to hunger organizations in the DC area.
Russian Jews of UMD is a campus group that seeks to foster and maintain the growth of a vibrant, dynamic, and culturally rich Russian Jewish community. We plan many social, educational, and cultural events for Russian-speaking Jewish college students and young adults. Russian Jews of UMD is the group in which young Russian Jews can come together to hang out, be themselves, and meet other people in their community while celebrating their heritage.
If you are you interested in learning Russian, making a closer connection with Russian culture and heritage, or hoping to meet fellow Russian Jews on campus, then this is the group for you. Our club has many fun events that promote social and cultural learning. Typically, we host Russian Movie Nights, and traditional Russian home-cooked meals at for our Friday Shabbot dinners. We are also hoping to explore Baltimore and D.C. for more opportunities to learn about and participate in the Russian community around campus. If you are interested in traveling and meeting other Russian Jews across the nation, opportunities for the Annual Midwest Russian Jewish Shabbatons will be available. The Russian Jewish Club also has strong connections with UMD alumni, who actively come to the club events, as well as Russian Jews from neighboring campuses like Towson University and American University.
