Maryland Hillel Repair the World Alternative Breaks

Jamie Weiss – Guatemala 2010

About Alternative BreaksThrough our extensive Alternative Break program, Hillel and Repair the World offer students the opportunity to immerse themselves in new local and global communities in order to learn about and actively combat social justice issues. Alternative Breaks inspire students to understand their role in the world and their ability to make change.

Every year, Maryland Hillel sends over 10 trips world-wide during Winter and Spring breaks. Locations have included India, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Nicaragua, New Orleans, Arizona, Atlanta, Chicago and more. AB participants travel nationally and internationally in teams to different cities, engage in active service, and have the opportunity to gain new perspectives on social issues while meeting community needs, and learning about and building upon community assets. Students engage in and learn about solutions to some of today’s largest social problems. Issue areas include urban poverty, education and sustainable development.
