Check out these fantastic ways to spend your spring break making a difference in communities in need both domestically and internationally! Participate in an alternative spring break program with Maryland Hillel this spring and have an experience that will last a lifetime!

Katrina Relief on the Gulf Coast:

Spend a week in the Gulf Coast reparing homes and building community in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Travel down south together with your fellow Terps and Jewish students from around the country as we help bring hope to Katrina victims in Louisiana still very much in need of our help and support.

Trip Dates: March 16th-23rd

Cost: $125 plus travel (approx. $300)

Maryland Hillel in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil:

Spend your spring break in South America for an unforgettable and highly enriching experience of social justice. Travel with your fellow UMD students to deepen your understand and involvement in social and economic issues, while contributing to the local economy and infrastructure.  Students will discover one of the most vibrant Jewish communities of South America, located in a country with a rich history and culture, a complex socio-political system and the most welcome people.  The ten day trip includes social service work, sightseeing, and immersing ourselves in Brazilian/Jewish culture! Trip Dates: March 13-23rd
Cost: (VERY tentative) $1900-$2200 (This includes flight, hotel, etc.) Scholarships will be available

JNF Spring Break trip in Israel:

 Answering the needs of the Jewish homeland, Jewish National Fund (JNF) will send college students and young adults to volunteer in Israel during their spring break vacations this March to help with JNF's  Renewal Campaign.  Participants will spend a full week volunteering. While days will be filled with hard but fulfilling work, nights will be filled with entertainment, music, and fun. The groups will also interact with the people they are helping and hear from environmental experts and scholars.
Trip Dates: March 16-23rd
Cost: FREE, with a commitment to raise a minimum of $1,050 through personalized fundraising websites

JFSJ Spring Break Trip to L.A.:

Jewish Funds For Justice travel programs offer a 360-degree view of the city, the issues it faces, and the array of solutions, from hands-on service to new philanthropic strategies to unprecedented community organizing. The trip includes: Service learning travel programs examine the interlocking issues of housing, immigration, and economic justice, learning about efforts to preserve affordable housing  and meeting with some of the most innovative and exciting leaders in Los Angeles today.

Cost: $375 plus travel
